Were You Born in a Barn?

Magpie Tales Photo Prompt #111

The thought of her words
rang in his ears
as he hid in shame;
The broom lay quietly
in the corner,
the mud stubbornly clinging
to the pristine floor.

  3. I've read other takes on this picture, most of them having to do with a nurturing quality inspired by the nest, but your take is unique. Now that I've read your poem I can see the shame element as well.

  5. Yea, I may have said it a couple of times to my kids, but I heard it all the time from my Mom. And come to think about it, she used to say it to my Dad when he tracked in mud from the farm...only he would just smile at her.

  6. No wonder he's hanging his head! Thank goodness she didn't take the broom to him!

  9. Tracking mud all over a newly cleaned floor is so thoughtless. Such thoughtlessness needs to be put right by a clean up on the part of the offender. Otherwise, the wall of shame is called for. I enjoyed this poem and I have to say, the person in the prompt looks very guilt ridden. Thanks for sharing, Laurel.
