"Let them eat cake"

I wrote about making wedding cakes last year in "Making weddings is not for Sissies". Recall that I promised to make this cute young couple's cake in a moment of wine weakness and dang if I didn't do it again. But this time, I didn't forget that I committed to some old friends a small cake for their renewal of vows.

So bring on the red velvet and vanilla with butter cream icing. Just because it's small, doesn't mean it can't be elegant.  Just type in "small wedding cake" into Pinterest and see what you get - so many cute cakes!!

Something pretty....

I was just reading a post of blog that's new to me, Beauty in the Ordinary. Jacqueline's "quest" (my word) is to sort through all the mish mash of life and find the good things in life to celebrate. As I read her most recent post this morning, I was struck by the simplicity of the notion that no matter what happens, there is always something "good", there is always beauty in life to behold. Her blog is an artsy feast for the eyes...lovely photographs mingled around words from her life...



It made me want to post something "pretty" this morning, just for the sake of art....something beautiful, captured through my lens...

Fall Family Dinner is over,

Thanksgiving is around the corner. 

Dreams of Christmas holidays are dancing in my head...

and with it, the Annual tree cutting day with the kids and grand kids...

The pleasures of sewing...

Colette is in hog heaven today.  She knows I'm off to the City to visit Britex fabrics. Even though I'm not shopping for her specifically, she knows that it will be hard not to resist the beautiful "drapey" knits or wonderful linens lining the walls of this San Francisco institution.



Today I am shopping with a friend to find something gorgeous and flowing for her son's wedding. I've been researching designs for "real women with curves", and I've come up with a nice silhouette for her. Colette is trying it with some of my fabric. Black is now okay for weddings, especially formal evenings, but we will be looking for something in my friend's color palette.  I'm thinking blues for a blond, huh??

Now all we need is to parlay some fabric...and have lunch, of course. How blessed am I to live two hours from San Francisco?

And tomorrow? Off to the Gem Faire to find just the right pearls and crystals for the bride's special day and maybe something for her new Mother-in Law?
